Monteleone Etna Rosso Rumex 2019 is a remarkable wine crafted from 100% Nerello Mascalese, showcasing the unique terroir of Mount Etna. Located at an altitude of 680 meters in the Contrada Pontale Palino, the vineyard thrives in volcanic soil rich in sand and gravel, surrounded by natural features formed from ancient lava flows. The grapes are meticulously harvested by hand and undergo a carefully controlled fermentation and aging process, resulting in a wine that reflects the distinct characteristics of its environment.
This Etna Rosso Rumex features a vibrant garnet red color and offers enticing aromas of small red fruits, orange peel, and macerated flowers, complemented by a balsamic background. The palate is juicy and fresh, with a savoury character and noble tannins creating a refined finish. A rare find, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts.

Viticulture:The vineyard is located on the North slope of the Mount Etna, at an altitude of 680 meters above sea level, in Contrada Pontale Palino. During maceration, which lasts10-12 days, daily breaking up of the marc are carried out by manual punching down. After racking, malolactic fermentation is carried out in 500 and 300 liter oak tonneaux with indigenous lactic bacteria.

Monteleone began in July 2017 when Giulia Monteleone, along with her partner and father Enrico, discovered two hectares of vineyard at the foot of Mount Etna, near the Alcantara river. Here, they realised they had found the ideal location to produce their wine. The vineyards, located on the northern slope of Etna in the contrade of Cuba and Pontale Palino, feature distinct terroirs that lead them to vinify each plot separately.
In Contrada Cuba, there are two hectares, one and a half of which is cultivated with espalier vines dating back to 1970, while the remaining five thousand meters are grown in the traditional alberello style from 1935. The indigenous grape varieties include Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, with small percentages of Alicante. In Contrada Pontale Palino, at 700 meters above sea level, there are less than three thousand meters of pre-phylloxera, head-trained vines.
Since 2017, Monteleone has produced two Etna Rosso DOC wines: "Il Monteleone" and "Cuba," the latter coming from the oldest vines. Starting with the 2018 vintage, they introduced two new labels: the Etna Bianco DOC "Anthemis" and the Etna Rosso DOC "Rumex." All Monteleone wines elegantly express the unique and nuanced character of the Etna territory.
