Monte Maletto is an exciting new venture brought to life by Gian Marco Viano, a true aficionado of the wine world. His journey began like that of many wine lovers: with a sommelier course that ignited a passion leading him through the kitchens of prestigious, Michelin-starred restaurants. However, a deeper desire soon took root: the aspiration to become a winemaker.

In 2015, Gian Marco seized the opportunity to take over vineyards in Carema, embarking on a quest to create small-batch artisanal wines that reflect his values of purity, simplicity, and a profound respect for the land. The Carema region is a hidden gem in Piedmont, situated at the gateway to the Aosta Valley. This enchanting area boasts a cool climate with dramatic temperature swings, allowing the Nebbiolo grape to thrive and express its elegance and character.

Here, the vineyards are not just rows of vines but a stunning architectural marvel, featuring terraced dry-stone walls that stand as a testament to human ingenuity. The grapes are trained on lofty pergolas upheld by sturdy stone columns, where the stones serve a dual purpose: providing structural support while capturing the sun's warmth during the day to gently release it at night, ensuring the vines thrive even in cooler temperatures.

Gian Marco is captivated by this breathtaking landscape, fully aware of its potential yet undeterred by the challenges of heroic viticulture. He embraces the demanding manual labour and unwavering commitment required in the vineyards, driven by a vision to produce exceptional wines that embody the spirit of this unique terroir. Monte Maletto is not just about wine; it's a celebration of the land, a passion for craftsmanship, and a promise to honour the rich heritage of Carema.
