Sorpasso

Carema 2020

Sorpasso Carema was first produced in 2016, crafted from well-exposed vineyards on terraces, primarily featuring 90% Nebbiolo "Picotendro" and the rest from ripe Ner d’Ala and Neretti grapes.

A delightful wine made by grapes sun-warmed for quick fermentation in stainless steel and wood, with separate vinification and an average maceration of 90 days. Ageing occurs in used wood barrels, and the wine is left unfiltered. It presents a bright ruby color with a warm garnet rim, offering an elegant nose of crisp red fruits, tobacco, spices, and mineral notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with silky tannins and a harmonious balance of freshness and salinity, suggesting potential for further evolution in the bottle.

  • Carema is a small town located between Valle d’Aosta and Piedmont. Carema is an extreme area. Rocky. Steep. Insidious. The vinification here is very challenging. The cultivable areas here are very small, literally carved from the mountains, at between 300 and 700 meters altitude. Vittorio is a well-known oenologist, and his wife Martina is an architect. They were both born in Carema and a few years ago they decided to dedicate themselves to producing the finest possible wine from their land. The story begins in 2012 when Martina and Vittorio rented their first vineyard in Carema. A few years on and the cantina is now considered one of the highlights of the entire region. Martina and Vittorio work the vineyards by hands and in full respect of the surrounding environment and with full focus on native grapes
