Out on his own in the highest reaches of Neviglie, Roberto (‘Roby’) Garbarino is a true 'Jedi Knight' of artisan winemaking. Roby’s vintage Alta Langa crafted in the traditional champagne method with extended 30-40 months ageing in bottle is a compelling alternative to grower champagne at a fraction of the price.
Roby moved to the Langhe 18 years ago, after completing his oenological studies in Turin. Working with star oenologists like Dante Scaglione at Giacosa taught Roby all he needed to know about the local grapes, terroir and vinification techniques. After several years abroad, Roby decided to return to the Langhe in 2010 and fulfil a lifelong dream: to buy a cantina with vineyards and make his own wine. Supported by his family, Roby acquired and beautifully renovated a 19th century traditional farmstead with adjacent vineyards in the hills of Neviglie, just a few kilometres outside Barbaresco. After completion of his winery in 2013, Roberto started the production of Moscato d’Asti DOCG, Dolcetto d’Alba and the now legendary Alta Langa Metodo Classico sparkling wine.
Alta Langa Docg resides at the top of Piemonte's sparkling wine production, obtained through the traditional champagne method from a strict selection of the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. Roby’s vineyards in Neviglie, sit at 480m above sea level with east and south west exposures on a combination of limestone, clay and sand. A truly unique terroir for the production of high altitude bubbles with impressive quality and distinctive character.
